Description

Portrait of Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760). Zinzendorf was a Lutheran minister, German religious and social reformer, bishop of the Moravian Church, Christian mission pioneer, and a major figure of 18th century Protestantism. His faith developed as part of the Pietist movement, which emphasized a true religion of the heart over confessional allegiance to any church. Zinzendorf devoted his life to uniting Christianity as a whole. Zinzendorf is depicted in a blue coat, white neck tie, and black head covering. His hand is raised, fingers extended to this breast.
