Athabascan Tribute (Ggiinaquq)

“This mask tells the story of the Athabascan people in the simplest terms. The green [represents] the lands and the blue [represents] the rivers that run through it. The beads honor the arts and the circle surrounds the spirit of the moose. At the heart of it all are the traditions that hold the people together as a people, represented by the sacred potlatch bones of the moose. The white area running down the forehead of the effigy represents the oneness of the people and the world they live in.” – Perry Eaton
