Name/Title

Life Ring from the SS Edmund Fitzgerald

Context

Launched and christened at River Rouge, Michigan, before a crowd of 10,000, on June 7, 1958, the Edmund Fitzgerald was the largest ship on the Lakes. The day after the 13,632 ton Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared in a November storm, this life ring and other debris from the wreck washed up on a Canadian shore, sad reminders of the birth and death of a Great Lakes ore carrier.
