Wooden printer's blocks

Name/Title

Wooden printer's blocks

Context

Part of a series of art created for North Milwaukee/Villard Library. According to the 8/9/1970 MJ, "[t]he art pieces have been added in three phases over the two years [since the North Milwaukee Library opened in July 1968]. This piece was created specifically for North Milwaukee Library. Mr. Lamers also designed the North Milwaukee Library building while working with Burroughs and Van Lanen Architects. See entry # 917 for background on the Villard/North Milwaukee art collection. From the artists' statement: "Besides its excellent visual impact, the composition of antique printers' type blocks also speaks of the history of the printed word."
