Hand written history of ship on backing paper: "Barkintine [sic] 'Tubal Cain.' Built 1866 for service on the Great Lakes to carry grain from the upper lakes through the old Wetland Canal, and back with coal. Tonnage 340. Dimensions 140' x 26' x 12'. Probably owned by Byron Whitker of Detroit. Stranded 1867 at Two Rivers Pt. (Wisconsin), Lake Michigan, laden with grain. Settled down in quick sand where she remained. Built at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by S.M. [?] Jones."
