Provenance

Notes

The following information from the donors was attached to the inventory card (see documentation in accession record at 1963.3): "The painting was executed by W. Schroeter of Cedarburg in 1886 who was commissioned by either the Northern Pacific Railroad or our grandfather, Henry Seifert, head of Milwaukee Lithographing and Engraving Company. We understand that it was used for the cover of the first brochure sent out by the railroad for advertising Yellowstone Park and which was printed by the Lithographing Company. The painting came into the possession of the Emma Seifert Hunkel family in 1908 when, our brother Emil P. Hunkel, received it as a gift from our grandfather and was acquired by us upon our brother's death in 1950. Valesca Hunkel Meir, Paula E. Hunkel"
