According to the MJ dated 9/11/1973 (attached to accession record at 1973.3), Freeman sketched the mural during an appearance "on the Milwaukee Public Library's television program, 'Your Library Story.'" Apparently he completed the drawing in 15 minutes while the book was being read aloud.
