Context

The 2/6/1894 MJ reference "the Milwaukee brewery" at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Clarence Street; trolleys in the foreground of the print indicate "8th Avenue." The 2/9/1894 MJ says the Milwaukee Brewery's "first barrel of beer" was tapped on February 8, 1894. The article also lists the officers of the company as: Charles J. Liebscher, President; William Jung, Vice President; Charles B. Carsten, Secretary; and Hubert Schlomer, Treasurer. The 4/22/1896 supplies the following information: "Negotiations are pending for the purchase of the Milwaukee brewery, located on Eighth avenue, by Mr. Philip Jung, who stepped out of the firm of Falk, Jung & Borchert at the time of the consolidation of the firm with the Pabst Brewing company ... The Milwaukee brewery is the last one established in the city and many of the stockholders are saloon keepers. August Kickhefer is president, William Hung vice-president, Charles B. Carstens secretary and Albert Wallber, treasurer. Philip Jung, the prospective purchaser of the Milwaukee brewery, is the proprietor of a malting plant on Sherman street." The 10/15/1892 MJ also references an earlier Milwaukee Brewery, Milwaukee's "first brewery," which opened in the spring of 1840 and operated until 1880.
