Hand written history of ship on backing paper: "Barkintine [sic] 'Tubal Cain.' Built 1866 for service on the Great Lakes to carry grain from the upper lakes through the old Wetland Canal, and back with coal. Tonnage 340. Dimensions 140' x 26' x 12'. Probably owned by Byron Whitker [sic: Whitaker?] of Detroit. Stranded 1867 at Two Rivers Pt. (Wisconsin), Lake Michigan, laden with grain. Settled down in quick sand where she remained. Built at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by J.M. [James Monroe] Jones."
