Unidentified Woman, Possibly Mrs. Caroline Ross (Granger)

Name/Title

Unidentified Woman, Possibly Mrs. Caroline Ross (Granger)

Context

Front view portrait of an unidentified woman wearing dress typical of the 1860s including a dark dress with lace collar and cuffs and red satin stole. The woman is wearing a brooch on her collar. The subject has not been identified, but may be Mrs. Caroline Ross (Granger) of Muskingum Co. (Zanesville), Ohio, who was the mother of Maj. Charles H. Ross, for whom there is a escutcheon with the grouping of G.P.A. Healy portraits. The woman in this portrait resembles the Mrs. Ross photographed in an early daguerreotype of the Ross family dated 1843 (see attached). The painting is in its received condition.
