2024 post: Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This 1938 lithograph is by renowned artist Thomas Hart Benton, who was instrumental in the development of American Regionalism. This 1930s and 40s art movement focused on life in rural and small-town America. It was in part a backlash against the rise of modernist art-- as Benton put it, "I wallowed in every cockeyed 'ism' that came along, and it took me ten years to get all that modernist dirt out of my system.”
