2024 post: Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This 1962 painting is by Kansas artist and Washburn alum Thomas Parker. Using swirling brushstrokes and a palette of muted blues and greens, it depicts Roman ruins at the ancient Libyan city of Sabratha. Annexed to the Roman Republic in the first century BCE, Sabratha was rebuilt in the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE. Archaeological excavations have uncovered architecture from this period, including a Roman theater, temples, and mosaics.
