A Lesson in Modern Morality, 1857
lithograph
In English, the print’s caption reads, “Let’s see young man, explain to me what is a good deed?
Sir, the little Langlumé, who is the son of a broker at the exchange, told me that his papa taught him that a good stock is one that is above par.”
In French, the caption is a pun because “un bonne action” means both “a good deed” and a “good deal.”
What are these grownups fussing about?
