Robert M. Lindholm, American (Missouri) b. 1935
Windswept, 1991, photograph
Largely a conservation photographer, Lindholm also frequently photographs abandoned remnants of earlier times, such as this Midwestern farmhouse and barn. Regarding these works, Lindholm said, “I think it’s important to preserve the natural history, but also the cultural history… I can feel a sense of a family farm when I see an old building … The farm community ties in with the land, and I guess I’m feeling another connection to the land [in]… those old buildings.” Lindholm’s typical use of black and white photography also communicates a strong sense of the past. Until 1993, Lindholm was Missouri’s Assistant Attorney General representing the Department of Natural Resources. Today he lives in Lindsborg, KS.
