Harold Altman, American, 1924-2003
Three Couples II, 1975, etching
The wide park path in this etching extends to its front edge, inviting the viewer to step into the work of art. Parks were a major theme in Altman’s body of work; he depicted people walking in Central Park, as well as the Luxembourg Gardens, Parc Monceau and Parc Montsouris in Paris, where Altman typically lived for four months of the year. While the mood of this print is essentially peaceful, its secondary palette of green, purple and orange adds a slightly acerbic note.
