(from 2014.Old Walks and New) Richard Parkes Bonington, English, 1802-1828 Church of St. Savoir, Caen, 1824, lithograph The early nineteenth-century witnessed a revival of religious feeling, rejecting the rationality of the eighteenth century. The Middle Ages/Medieval period [500 A.D. to 1500 A.D.] became popular because it was perceived as an extremely spiritual time. Tourists now travelled to see the architecture of this period, such as the Church of St. Savior, Caen, the building of which began in the 14th century.
