Fern Cooper, American (Kansas), 1912-?
Frame House, 1930s?, soft ground etching
Fern Cooper studied with Mary Huntoon when the older artist directed the Kansas WPA/Federal Arts Project around 1936-37. Cooper subsequently taught at Washburn in 1937-38. It is possible that this image was created during the Dust Bowl. Its spare and sparsely leafed trees may reflect the lack of rainfall during those years.
