2024 post:
Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This work is by Luigi Lucioni, a New England-based artist who immigrated to the United States from Italy as a child. When he made this etching in 1948, he was living in New York City and spending his summers in Vermont, where he was inspired by the rural, hilly landscape.
“You can't cope with nature. You can't put in all the little things that nature can do so easily and you can't. So you have to get the essentials of these things, and that is my idea of realism.” --Luigi Lucioni
