2024, “Endangered Art: Reclaiming a Legacy”
This painting of a nursing calf and its mother is by Carleton Wiggins, whom the 1915 edition of Biographical Sketches of American Artists called “the most distinguished painter of sheep and cattle in the United States.”
Conservators cleaned grime and nicotine residue from the surface of this work. They mitigated water damage and cracking, and in-painted areas of loss. A hole in the upper right section of the canvas was repaired. The painting received a new backing board and was returned to its original frame.
