The "Busts" series is an embrace of parallax.
There is an inherent (and extremely fruitful) tension in using a sculptural form as a canvas. The implied spaces and volumes of naturalistic illustration are often at odds with the tangible reality of the form. The surfaces, in turn, change as the viewer repositions themselves in relation to the work. These works are static objects which can be understood but never fully encompassed by an individual, which "behave" dynamically only when observed, and which require an unmediated, in-person viewing for a full understanding.
It's a good tool for talking about people.
