2026 social media post: Today we're celebrating the abundance of creativity in our state with a look at Kansas artist Elizabeth "Grandma" Layton (1909–1993). Layton was 69 years old when she decided to enroll in an art class for the first time. Her teacher and fellow students affectionately called her “Grandma,” a nickname that stuck. Over the next 15 years, she created more than 1200 expressive drawings exploring her thoughts, relationships, and life events.
