2024 post:
Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This circa-1967 painting is by Roland Ginzel, a pioneering Chicago abstractionist. His lyrical style was sometimes gestural and other times more geometric, as in "Dark 44." This painting's evocative abstract language appears to be influenced by the work of surrealists like Joan MirĂ³, Yves Tanguy, and Roberto Matta.
