Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This 1947 print is inspired by "Candide" (1759), a tragicomic satire by French philosopher Voltaire. Using expressive, gestural lines, artist Antoin Clave evokes an 18th-century couple, likely the novel's naïve protagonist Candide and his ill-fated romantic interest, Cunégonde.
