"Perspectives from the Plains," 2025
This sculpture tells me that the Kansas indigenous community is very important to understanding this state. The vision of a warrior standing with the sun on his face proudly looking up is very moving. I think that he is standing on Mother Earth thanking Father Sky for his existence or that year’s harvest or for his family surviving winter in Kansas. The delicate carving of his headdress and the back of his dress sleeves almost look like real feathers and are beautiful. I have yet to see the finished sculpture in Wichita but am looking forward to seeing it.
