Jewel Plummer Cobb was an American biologist, professor, and academic administrator. She earned a Ph.D. in biology from New York University in 1950, and became a prominent cancer researcher specializing in cell biology. Cobb was appointed president of California State University, Fullerton in 1981. There, she was responsible for tremendous growth in enrollment, and enhanced the institution’s academic prestige. In 1990, she became a California State University, Los Angeles Trustee Professor. Cobb received the National Academy of Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.
