Rachel Robinson founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation in honor of her late husband, the first man to integrate major league baseball. The non-profit organization provides college scholarships and leadership training to minority youths. Robinson also incorporated the J.R. Development Corporation to build and manage housing for people of moderate and low incomes. As a professional in psychiatric nursing, she held clinical, teaching, and administrative positions in New York and Connecticut. She has received numerous honors, including the Candace Award for Distinguished Service from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
