Jackie Torrence was one of the nation’s foremost storytellers. With a repertoire of over 300 narratives from around the world, she specialized in ghost stories, African American tales, and Appalachian mountain lore. She performed on radio programs, on television shows, and at live events in almost every state and in several other countries. Torrence recorded nine albums and wrote two books. In 1997, she was honored with the World Storytelling Award.
