From sassy to sublime, Sarah Vaughan sang her way into the hearts of millions around the world. When she started performing in the 1940s, critics and fans agreed that she was one of the most inspired and original singers to appear since the great Ella Fitzgerald. She recorded jazz and popular songs, transforming standards into stylish signature pieces whether she performed with small ensembles, big bands, or 50-piece orchestras. She won numerous music polls and continued to perform and record until her death in 1990.
