Brigadier General Sherian Grace Cadoria was the first Black woman to achieve general officer rank in the Army. When she retired in 1990 as the Deputy Commanding General and Director of Mobilization and Operations of the Total Army Personnel Agency, she was the highest-ranking Black woman in the United States armed forces. She served in Vietnam from January 1967 to October 1969, and held critical assignments with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Law Enforcement Division, and the Criminal Investigation Command.
