Print is inspired by his Soundsuits which were initially conceived by Cave as a "kind of race-,class- and gender scuring armature, one that's both insulating and isolating, an articulation of his profound sense of vulnerability as a black man." W.E.B. DuBois wrote of the double consciousness-- the psycological adjustments black Americans make in order to survive. Cave began making his Soundsuits after the 1991 beating of Rodney King by the Los Angeles Police Department and he began questioning how he would exist in a "placee that sees me as a threat."
