2022, Whose America? Ferrato’s photography examines the inequality that women face and what she calls the “war of the sexes.” Taken in Butler, Pennsylvania, a city known to have one of largest WKKK (Women’s KKK) populations of the 20th century, Ferrato’s photograph captures the ferocious facial expression of a Grand Dragon—one of the KKK’s highest-ranking members—and depicts a woman in power within a primarily male-driven organization. The photograph reveals how gaining rights by one group is often contingent upon taking away the rights of another. Text by Kaylee Berroth, Washburn student
