Glenda Taylor has been a professor in the Art Department at Washburn since 1987, and department chair since 1997. She was rainsed on a farm and has lived and worked all her life in Kansas. She works mostly in ceramics, making vessels and sculptures in relief and in the round that recall the prairie landscape. There is a complex relationship between Taylor's vessels and her other sculptures. Done in the same medium, with similar surfaces treatments and often similar shapes used, they encourage viewers to consider the relationships between the rural landscape and art in new ways. Being made chiefly of clay, her art comes directly from the land as well as deriving formal inspiration from it. Golden Dreams, a three part wall relief which refers lyrically to fields of ripened grain and their nourishing underlying soil strata, is such a piece.
