Gender is heavily policed through shame. That shame is interrogated here on two fronts: the slut-shaming hurled at survivors of sexual violence as referenced in the slogan “Still not asking for it,” and also the shame women and femme people are supposed to feel about their bare chests. If viewers find this image shocking, they should consider why they are shocked by the body of the survivor, but not by the omnipresence of the violence she faces.
