2024 "Endangered Art: Reclaiming a Legacy" Jervis McEntee was a poet and second-generation Hudson river School painter who studied with renowned artist Frederic Edwin Church. McEntee was best known for his autumnal and winter landscapes. As he noted in an 1874 letter, "Perhaps what would mark my work among that of my brother artists is preference for the soberer phases of Nature, the gray days of November and its leafless trees." His painting November was cleaned of surface grime and aging yellow varnish. Conservators treated damage and paint loss along the upper edge caused by a poorly fitting frame.
