About my work:
I took printmaking classes at K-State from 1986 to 1998. During that time I made 65 silkscreen editions. Eight of these were sent as Christmas cards and gifts. Still Dreaming was one of those cards.
I would search through books and magazines and photos to find imagines of people that interested me, in situations that seemed to reflect what I wanted to show. As I worked on these pieces, I found myself weaving a story around the people—what they were doing before, during, and after the picture I was creating. I liked them, not just as art, but as people I somehow knew. When K-State no longer had a silkscreen studio, I continued with printing at home doing hand pressed monoprints.
Still Dreaming:
In an earlier silkscreen, “I’m Dreaming of a…” a girl and boy are playing a holiday tune on a record player at Christmas time. In Still Dreaming, the same girl and boy are a married couple of many years. And though they are elderly with not so many years ahead of them, they still have their dreams, as dreaming is part of what makes life worth living.
