Defense spending amounts to about ten times more than we spend on transportation or education. In April 1982, Ronald Reagan gave his infamous “Star Wars” speech. This is my image of that speech. The ruby laser, with which he proposed to shoot down incoming missiles (top left) is used here to generate a hologram (three-dimensional image) of a horse. Lasers do generate holograms but not in this way. In Reagan’s ignorance of technology and most of the 20th century, Reagan tries to touch the horse. With this horse, I extend an invitation for him to ride off into the next sunset. His potential re-election is a horse of a different color, a Trojan horse filled with appointments that will benefit vested interests—those who must have overwhelming advantage to maintain it
