2024, “Endangered Art: Reclaiming a Legacy”
This portrait by American painter Clarisse Madeleine Laurent depicts a well-dressed man holding a copy of the Kansas City Star. It may portray the artist’s cousin, Seldon Webster Bowman.
During treatment, conservation specialists stabilized the painting by removing it from twisted stretcher bars, cleaning it, and in-painting areas of paint loss with reversible pigment. It was placed in a newly acquired, period-appropriate frame.
