2024 post: Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. This circa-1950 painting is by Kansas artist, educator, and pioneering art therapist Mary Huntoon. After graduating from Washburn, she studied at the Art Students League under influential American artists Joseph Pennell and Robert Henri. Throughout the 1920s and 30s, she moved between Europe and Topeka. Around the time that she created this painting, Dr. Karl Menninger appointed her the director of the Department of Art, Physical Medicine, and Rehabilitation at Winter Veterans Administration Hospital.
