2024 post:
Throughout 2024, we're looking back at the 100 year history of art at the Mulvane. Painter and printmaker Gabor Peterdi immigrated to the US from Hungary when he was 24. After fighting in WWII, he worked as an artist and an influential art instructor at institutions like Hunter College, New York University, and Yale University. His 1958 etching "Wings of the Ocean" features the style and subject he was well known for: evocative, abstracted representations of nature. He was often inspired by the landscapes he saw on his travels and distilled the natural phenomena he observed into intricate, expressive textures, lines, and forms.
