Lieutenant-Colonel John Fletcher, CMG: Born in Greenock Scotland in 1815, Lieut-Col. John Fletcher, CMG is recognized as one of several early founding Officers of The Regiment (pre 1914 CGG) for his role in having helped form the First Rifle Companies of the 1st Vol Militia of Montreal. 

In the late 1846, LCol John Fletcher was appointed Adjutant of The Montreal Fire Brigade. He helped organize and send some CGG Soldiers to participate in the Crimean War (1854).  In 1855, authorized by General Order, 31st August 1855, Captain Fletcher became Commander of The 2nd Volunteer Militia Company of Montreal. By 1857, Major Fletcher was appointed Musketry Instructor for Lower Canada and by 1859 he accepted a commission into the 100th (Prince of Wales's Royal Canadian) Regiment of Foot. He was Gazetted as Major and helped form the 5th Royals (Black Watch) in 1862. He became St. Jean District Deputy Assistant General during the Fenian Raids period and went on to finish his service as Brigade Major and Military District Commander of Montreal. On October 18th, 1870, in Montreal, Lt.-Col John Fletcher C.M.G. (Former officer with the 1st Prince of Wales Regiment) became the first Colonial Militia recipient to be invested with The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George for his service during the Fenian Raids (Action at Trout River). He passed away on 7th June 1902 and is buried in Mont Royal Cemetery.
