ABOUT QUEENIE (1913-1930)
Queenie was a Piebald Mare that was first obtained by Transport Sargeant (Late Captain Walter H. Scott MC) and joined CGG at Bramshott, UK on May 16, 1916. Originally assigned to Lieutenant-Colonel Gilday, DSO, Queenie served under the 87th Battalion Medical Officer as the Medical 'Maltese Cart' mare and Mascot of the 87th Battalion (CGG) for the entire war from 1916-1919. She survived many battles including Ypres, The Somme, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Bourlon Wood, Canal de Nord and close calls, including one shelling attack that killed all of the 87th Battalion's (8 other) horses but her. At War's end, she was purchased by MGen Frank Stephen Meighen, CMG, AdC and under the watch of Major Alan McLaughlan, OBE was transported back to the UK and Canada where she remained on the Estate of General Meighen in St. Genvieve, Rigaud, Quebec. Her last keeper was 178020 Guardsman Edwin Ernest Potter.Created By
