Name/Title

1919/20 - Spanish Flu Pandemic and The Canadian Grenadier Guards

Scope and Content

In 1919 The Canadian Grenadier Guards Armoury was used as an emergency hospital to help deal with the overflow of patients impacted by the 1918 influenza pandemic, a crisis that swept the globe in the wake of the First World War and killed approximately 50 million people. Fact or fiction: The oral history of CGG Home Station mentioned that the Regimental Armoury once contained a morgue which is plausible given the confirmation of our building’s role during the pandemic in 1920.
