It became the governing body for fullbore target rifle disciplines in Canada and has sent national teams to international competitions, including the annual Imperial Meeting at Bisley Camp in the UK since at least 1871. The Patterson Cup was a prestigious prize awarded by the DCRA to the Canadian fullbore rifle champion. It was presented to the winner of the Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championship, which was the national title in the sport. The cup was named after Captain John Patterson, a notable figure in Canadian shooting sports, and was a symbol of excellence in the discipline. The Patterson Cup was distinct from other DCRA prizes such as the Governor General’s Prize or the Grand Aggregate, which were also awarded at the annual meetings. The Patterson Cup specifically denoted the national champion in fullbore rifle shooting, making it one of the most coveted honors in Canadian shooting sports during the DCRA’s long history.
