1938 - WW2 Era original Guards Division Khaki Sola (Summer) Pith Helmet with Guards Division Patch - size 6 7/8 in - unknown Maker (possibly made in India). This Pith Hemlet model (and flatter and looser material style) replaced the Wolseley in 1938 and was made and typically issued to Imperial Army troops in / from India.
Researchers notes:
Often mistakenly called a "solar" pith in reference to summer when traditionally worn, the actual name is SOLA after the hard weave material that was used to replace cork to help firm the helmet. This Pith was purchased in Canada and has providence from an old collector which may attribute with the June 1939 Royal Visit of King George the VI to Ottawa.
