A rare Mark III “Turtle” helmet with Canadian Grenadier Guards painted white plume issued in 1943. (First year of issue manufactured by Fisher and Ludlow, Birmingham UK)
The Mk III Helmet was only produced from 1943-1945 and first worn in combat by British and Canadian troops on D-Day.
The Mk III and Mk IV Turtle helmets were used alongside the Brodie helmet for the remainder of the Second World War and kept in circulation with some units until 1960 after which time the Canadian version of the US M1 helmet was adopted.
