Context
Lieutenant Hugh Ross Cleveland, who served as a lieutenant in the CGG from October 1948 until transferring to the Canadian Army Special Force in October 1950. He was sent over to Korea by 25 Canadian Reinforcement Group, attached to 2 PPCLI in March 1951, was wounded by a landmine while leading an A Company patrol out into no-man's land on 13 May 1951, and died of his wounds in 6083 MASH, near Seoul, on 15 May 1951.
Lieutenant Hugh Ross Cleveland is remembered with honour at the Korean War Memorial Wall in Meadowvale Cemetery, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
The Canadian Korean War Memorial Wal commemorates the 516 volunteer Canadian soldiers who served and died in the Korean War, the Wall of Remembrance is a curved 61 metre-long polished granite wall displaying 516 bronze plaques. There is also a large plaque in the centre which lists each Canadian Military Unit which participated in the Korean War. This Memorial Wall was erected by The Korea Veterans Association of Canada and dedicated on 27 July 1997.
He is also remembered as one of 516 Canadians commemorated in the Korean War Book of Remembrance.
