Context

Major Rean Meyer was born in the eastern Townships, of Quebec in 1929. Educated at the Royal Military College and later commissioned into the Canadian Grenadier Guards to serve with NATO in Germany. He attended the USA Staff College in 1963 and was posting to NDHQ in Ottawa to become Secretary of various Canadian-American joint defence conferences. He transferred permanently to the Intelligence and Security Branch and was Secretary to the Joint Intelligence Committee, in addition to his other duties. In 1973, he was appointed Defence Analyst at the Department of External Affairs in charge of Middle East Operations and Terrorist Activities. He was Editor of the Intelligence Quarterly and the CDA Forum, and publishing numerous papers on intelligence and related affairs. In 1977 Rean retired with the rank of Major on the Supplementary Reserve in order to take an appointment with Debrett's Peerage, He passed in 2002 in Victoria, BC
