Context

The Province of Quebec Rifle Association, founded in 1869, is one of the oldest, preceded by the Nova Scotia Association in 1861 and the Ontario and National Associations in 1868. This also makes it one of the oldest sports organizations in North America. It has its origins in Great Britain in its format since it was reserved for units of the army, reserve or militia at that time. The first competition held in England at Wimbledon (where the tennis championship is now located) in 1860 was the beginning of a long tradition with the awarding each year of the Queen's Prize (Victoria at the time) in England which is then declined in Governor General's Prize at the National level and in lieutenant-Governor's Prize at the Provincial level.
