Context

This clock (which replaces an earlier one brought from the 1st Prince of Wales Regiment Fusiliers which sat on this mantle) is a tribute to the memory of 25629 CSM Mathew Penman, a WWI CGG veteran who served with the 14th Battalion (RMR) and later returned after the war to serve with CGG. He was known for visiting the Sergeants Mess each week from 1920 until his untimely death in the billiard room in 1974. The Clock is wound and maintained as per the original that sat on the CGG Sergeant's Mess Mantle.
