Description

For Museum records only - Part of the Lieutenant Michael A. Hayes-Rivet (MHR) Trust Collection *** FOR ARCHIVE PURPOSES ONLY - ARTIFACT NOT PART OF MUSEUM COLLECTION *** Extremely rare and fine examples of five captured German artifacts by the 87th Battalion CEF from the estate of Guardsman (Late Dr.) Norman Les Martin 177121 who was an original founding member of the 87th Battalion CEF and served his entire war service with CGG. Later, Dr. Martin went on to become the President of the CGG 6087th Overseas Association. These early war era (1916/1917) Shoulder Straps (Epaulettes) war trophies are rare for WW1 as the majority of items were returned or discarded by members prior to their demobilization in late 1919. They also provide insight into the types and origin of some of the German units CGG were fighting against. The 5 photo'd captured German Shoulder Straps with German Imperial buttons - (From Left to right): #1 - Feldrock (1907-10) style Grey strap with white piping and imperial crown with royal cypher - German Grenadier Guards Regiment (Bavaria) #2 - Green strap with red '4' - XXI Korps Rheinisches Infanterie Regiment Number 4 #3 - Lieutenant strap with silver Braid, black Chevrons and black piping [Prussian] - Regimental number 4 #4 - Red strap with Yellow piping with '11' - 11th Royal Infantry Regiment of the III, IV, XI XIII, XV, XIX, and II Bavarian Korps #5 - Bluse Style (1915-18) strap of Imperial German Regiment '360'
